Individual Match Play Opportunities for Juniors
Making Aces aims to provide local individual match play opportunities for juniors in Colchester.
By providing ’starter tournaments’, Making Aces gives players of all ages an opportunity to experience a tournament environment whilst learning the rules of the game, how to score, and behave in competition. Tournaments take place in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere in order not to deter children from competitive play.
There are two levels of tournaments.
- Orange & Green Ball
- Yellow Ball
Orange & Green Ball Tournaments
Orange Ball (5-8 years) Played with compressed balls (to reduce risk of injury and encourage longer rallies) and a reduced court size, Orange Ball tournaments are a fantastic introduction to match play for 5 to 8 year olds.
The format of the matches depends on the size of the draw.
Green Ball (8-10 years) Played with slightly compressed balls (to reduce risk of injury and encourage more point construction) on a normal sized court, Green Ball tournaments are a great stepping stone for players who are ready to progress from Orange Ball tournaments.
Yellow Ball Tournaments (10 years+) As players come out of Orange & Green ball programme at about the age of nine/ten they can then participate in the ‘starter tournament’ programme. This an ideal way for players to get an LTA rating. Tournaments are mostly held in school holidays. To participate players must have a British Tennis no. For more info visit www.lta.org.uk
The price of entering one of the Making Aces tournaments is £10 per child.
There is 50% discount to SLTC members and any junior who is enrolled in the Making Aces coaching programme.
